Capt. Cory J. Jenkins, 30, of Mesa, Ariz., was one of four soldiers who died of wounds suffered when the vehicle in which he and three other soldiers were riding hit an improvised explosive device, according to a U.S. Department of Defense announcement Aug. 27.

He leaves behind his wife, Brooke, and their 2-month-old daughter Reagen. His father, Stanley Jenkins of Mesa, Ariz., told the Deseret News that Capt. Jenkins had been able to spend a month with his baby daughter before being deployed to Afghanistan five weeks before he was killed.
Capt. Jenkins and his family were living in Steilacoom, Wash., where he was a Scoutmaster and active member of their ward. He had served a mission to the Russia Yekaterinburg Mission, 1998-2000.
