After saving a little bit of money each month for the past year, Lee SukJa and her son, Bae Soungmin, from the Changwon Ward, Masan Korea Stake, heard the voice of the prophet in person for the first time while attending general conference Oct. 3-4.
"It is far flight from Korea to America, and a lot of money," said Soungmin. "We prepared a lot, we saved money, not much, but a little each month so we could come."
But for Sister Lee and her son, the money was well spent.
When asked how Sister Lee felt when she saw the prophet, tears filled her eyes and she patted her heart.
"It was so great," said Sister Lee. "He feels like a father."
For her son, seeing the prophet was a great experience he will never forget.
"I felt the Holy Ghost and could feel that he is a prophet," he said. "It was a great conference."
Sister Lee joined the Church 20 years ago after a cousin introduced her to the gospel. Her husband joined that same year and they met while attending Church. Now, 20 years later, they have raised their family of five sons strong in the gospel. Of their five sons, three have served missions, and Sister Lee's hope is that the other two boys will serve missions when they turn 19.
In addition to hearing and seeing the prophet in person, Sister Lee said that being with so many Church members had a large impact on her.
"In Korea we have a small church, we feel like a small church because there aren't a lot of people," she said. "We came here and saw many members. It made us feel like we are [a part of] a big family."
Soungmin, who served a mission to the Korea Seoul West Mission, also commented on how many Church members were in one place, and the feeling of being a part of a large, powerful, and most important, true Church.
"Our Church is true and the gospel is great," he said. "In Korea we are small, but it is a great power to see so many members with the same values."
When they return, they said, they can't wait to tell their friends and family about the great experience they had while visiting Utah for general conference.
