Those who have ... been tithed shall pay one tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever. — Doctrine and Covenants 119:4
While serving as first counselor in the First Presidency, President Thomas S. Monson said during the October 1996 general conference: "The honest payment of tithing provides a person the inner strength and commitment to comply with the other commandments."
He further commented, "All of us can afford to pay tithing. In reality, none of us can afford not to pay tithing. The Lord will strengthen our resolve. He will open a way to comply."
