The new LDS version of the scriptures was the subject of a fireside broadcast to about 900 stake centers in the United States and Canada on March 10, 1985, according to the March 17, 1985, edition of the Church News.

According to the article, President Gordon B. Hinckley, then second counselor in the First Presidency, said in the pre-recorded program: "These new editions have been available to us for some time now — the Bible since 1979, and the Triple Combination since 1981. Scores of thousands of copies have been sold, and they have stood the test of careful scrutiny. But this is not enough. We need to read them more, to use them more."

Elder Thomas S. Monson, then of the Quorum of the Twelve, also spoke during the program saying, "The words of truth and inspiration found in our four standard works are prized possessions to me. I never tire of reading them. I am lifted spiritually whenever I search the scriptures."

Among other things, the new scriptures included new footnotes, a topical guide in the back of the Bible and a subhead to the Book of Mormon reading, "Another Testament of Jesus Christ."
