Called "The Great Revelation on Priesthood" in Essentials in Church History by President Joseph Fielding Smith, Section 107 of the Doctrine and Covenants was revealed on March 28, 1835.
The section heading in the Doctrine and Covenants states: "Revelation on priesthood, given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, dated March 28, 1835. … Although portions of this section were received on the date named, the historical records affirm that various parts were received at sundry times, some as early as November 1831."
According to Essentials in Church History, members of the Quorum of the Twelve met March 28 before departing on missions to the Eastern United States. They sought a blessing from the Lord through revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith and "were not disappointed."
The book says that in the revelation, "the various offices [of the priesthood], and powers pertaining thereto, were fully defined."
Among other things, Section 107 states: "Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence."
