Six new mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin service about July 1.
Scott Orton Baird, 54, and Bonnie Francom Baird, six children, Japan Nagoya Mission; Pleasant View 6th Ward, Provo Utah Sharon East Stake. Brother Baird serves as a branch president at the Provo Missionary Training Center and is a former bishop and counselor, high councilor and missionary in the Japan Tokyo Mission. President and chief executive officer, Griffin Hill Consulting. Born in Provo, Utah, to Frederick Twede and Sarah Orton Baird.
Sister Baird serves as a counselor in the stake Young Women presidency and is a former stake Young Women camp director, counselor in ward Young Women and Primary presidencies, nursery leader and activity days leader. Born in Provo, Utah, to Earl Lester and Mary Larene Glover Francom.
Steven Harvey Broadbent, 66, and Julie Pingree Broadbent, five children, Kenya Nairobi Mission; Pleasant View 6th Ward, Pleasant View Utah Stake. Brother Broadbent is a former missionary in the Mozambique Maputo Mission, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, bishop, stake Young Men president and missionary in the Northeast British Mission. Retired orthodontist. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harvey Murdock and Louise Freestone Bawden Broadbent.
Sister Broadbent served with her husband in the Mozambique Maputo Mission, served on the Young Women General Board, and is a former stake and ward Young Women president and Cub Scout leader. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Henry and Melba Nye Pingree.
Dean Lynn Howes, 57, and Catherine Nelson Howes, four children, Arizona Tempe Mission; Elk Hollow Ward, North Salt Lake Utah Stake. Brother Howes is a former counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, bishop, stake and ward Young Men president and counselor in a bishopric. Former partner, SCP Worldwide. Born in Ely, Nev., to Clarence Dean and Jeanne Kenley Howes.
Sister Howes is a former stake Young Women president, ward Primary president and counselor, counselor and secretary in a ward Young Women presidency, ward Relief Society president and counselor and ward Relief Society teacher. Born in Spokane, Wash., to Carl Gibbs Nelson and Patti Buehler Johanson.
Thomas Eugene Kelly, 57, and Kathleen Fisher Kelly, five children, Italy Rome Mission; Cottonwood 13th Ward, Salt Lake Cottonwood Stake. Brother Kelly is a former stake president and counselor, bishop and missionary in the Italy North Mission. Former executive vice president and general counsel, JetBlue Airways. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eugene Lyle and Carol Crockett Kelly.
Sister Kelly is a former stake and ward Young Women president, ward Relief Society president, counselor in a ward Young Women presidency, ward choir pianist and Church History Museum docent. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Grant J. and Alta Smith Fisher.
Gilson Roberto Catherini Prieto, 54, and Maria Claudete Gimenes Prieto, four children, Brazil Ribeirao Preto Mission; Jardim Simus Ward, Sorocaba Brazil Stake. Brother Prieto serves as stake president and is a former counselor in a stake presidency, bishop and counselor, high councilor, ward Young Men president and missionary in the Portugal Lisbon Mission. Sister Prieto serves as a nursery leader and is a former ward Young Women president and counselor, ward Primary president and ward Relief Society president. Born in Itabera, Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Julio Tunes and Liberty Rossi Gimenes.
Bruce Patton Summerhays, 66, and Carolyn Merrell Summerhays, eight children, Florida Tampa Mission; Canyon View Ward, Farmington Utah North Stake. Brother Summerhays serves as a gospel doctrine teacher and is a former high councilor, counselor in bishoprics, ward Young Men president and counselor and seminary teacher. PGA Golf Professional. Born in St. Louis, Mo., to Preston Summerhays and Cleo Margaret Patton.
Sister Summerhays serves as a ward Relief Society committee member and is a former ward Relief Society president, counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency, ward Young Women adviser and ward youth conference committee member. Born in Brigham City, Utah, to Elliott Merrell and Doris Jensen.
