The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will present its Pioneer Day Commemoration Concert on Friday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Conference Center.
This year's Pioneer Day Commemoration Concert will be a celebration of 100 years of recording by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Known as pioneers in many aspects of their recording ministry, from their longest continuous running radio broadcast to participation in the first trans-Atlantic television broadcast to pioneering use of high-definition broadcasting and 5.1 surround sound, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a recording achievement unmatched by any other American musical group.
On Sept. 1, 1910, with the assistance of the Columbia Phonograph Company, the Choir was successful in making its first recording, the first of any large musical organization.
That recording triumph will be celebrated in song and video during the annual Pioneer Day Commemoration Concert.
All tickets are free — but tickets are required. Because of the anticipated high demand for tickets to this event, tickets will be distributed through a random selection process.
Patrons may register on the Internet at www.lds.org/events for the opportunity to receive tickets.
The registration period began Saturday, June 5, and continues through Monday, June 14, until 11:59 p.m.
The concert will also be rebroadcast on Saturday, July 17, at various times on the satellite broadcast network of the Church and also on BYU Television.
