The 34th annual four-day Conference on Family History and Genealogy offered some 140 sessions covering various aspects of genealogy, including a "beginner track" teaching the basics of family history research. Just under 500 attendees registered this year, said George R. Ryskamp, associate professor of history at BYU and one of the organizers.
He added that this is the 47th year the conference has been held. "It's an extension of the original BYU priesthood seminars that were held beginning in the late '60s. Through the years, probably tens of thousands of people have learned how to do family history here at this BYU conference," he said.
He said the conference continues each year as "a way to reach out to a group of people who are already excited about the work and give them knowledge and tools to be more effective, not only within their own research, but in teaching others."
