The Church's 300th stake was organized in Toronto, Canada, on Aug. 14, 1960, according to the 2010 Deseret News Church Almanac.
According to an article in the Aug. 13, 1960, edition of the Church News, those officiating at the organization included Elder Mark E. Petersen of the Quorum of the Twelve, Elder Alma Sonne, an Assistant to the Twelve and President Thomas S. Monson, then president of the Canadian Mission.
The almanac states that 2,249 members of the Church attended the conference when the stake was created, 92 percent of the new stake's membership. William M. Davies was called to serve as president of what is now known as the Toronto Ontario Stake.
During the April 2010 general conference, the Church Statistical Report stated that there were 2,865 stakes as of Dec. 31, 2009, an average growth of more than 50 stakes per year over the last half-century.
