Tom and Louann Hunsaker will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, this week in preparation for serving in the Michigan Detroit Mission. They are following in the footsteps of their posterity. Eleven of their eleven children have served full-time missions, and now Elder and Sister Hunsaker will have their turn to serve.
Years ago the Hunsaker children created a mission fund for their parents where slowly money has been saved to help allow them to now serve. Their children have also encouraged them as they shared with their parents the value of couple missionaries in the missions where they have served.
Five of the Hunsaker children served missions in various parts of Germany. Others served in Brazil, Japan, Croatia, Malaysia, Russia, and Norway. Sometimes two or three were serving at the same time. Twin brothers Jacob and Joseph most recently returned from their missions in June of this year.
Louann was converted to the gospel as a young teenager when a Church member sent the missionaries to her house. Her strong testimony of missionary work has helped influence all 11 of her children to serve.
Tom put up a note years ago on their front door for each child to see as they left for school each day. The note said: “When you walk through this door you are entering the mission field.” The Hunsakers always tried to maintain their home in the spirit of a mini-MTC.
The family – children, spouses, and grandchildren gathered in their home in West Weber, Utah, (west of Ogden) this past week to help their parents with final preparations and wish them well as they leave for Detroit.
