President Thomas S. Monson received a grand welcome Nov. 19 at the Polynesian Cultural Center, where he toured villages, attended the night show and interacted with performers and tourists.
"Watching President Monson with our employees, including the students from BYU-Hawaii, and with our guests was simply incredible," said Von Orgill, Polynesian Cultural Center president. "There was electricity between them, an excitement, a mutual admiration and a genuine feeling of love and caring. From the handshakes, the hugs, the picture-taking, the humor, to the compliments shared and the encouragement given, the non-stop exchanges were literally filled with energy."
Accompanying President Monson to the cultural center were President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency, and his wife, Kathleen; Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Twelve, and his wife, Mary; and Elder William R. Walker and his wife, Vicki.
"The entire PCC team was thrilled to prepare for, perform and serve President Monson, President Eyring, Elder Cook, Elder Walker and our other special visitors," said Brother Orgill. "It was particularly touching to see President Monson reach out to the young children in the crowds, stopping to talk to them, hold them, kiss them, and even wiggle his ears for them. Honestly, it felt as though we were watching just what the Savior would be doing if He were with us. It was wonderful in every possible way!"
