REXBURG, IDAHO
A piano owned by famous 20th century pianist Vladimir Horowitz will be available to play by appointment, free of charge, at Brigham Young University-Idaho Dec. 13 and 14.
"The instrument is historically significant because of its provenance. Horowitz was one of the greatest pianists this past century and this was his preferred instrument. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play such an instrument," said Stephen Allen, Department of Music faculty member.
The Rexburg community is invited to come and play Horowitz's piano and observe a display commemorating his life. The opportunity to host this historic instrument came to the Department of Music through Dunkley Music of Boise.
Horowitz was born in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1903, and began studying music at an early age. After his popularity grew in his native country, he immigrated to New York City in 1940. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1944 and died in New York City in 1989. Known as the last of the Romantics, Horowitz was famous for his unusual style.
