Elder M. Russell Ballard, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, left, and the Most Rev. John C. Wester, Bishop of Salt Lake City (at podium), were presented with the President's Award at the July 13 Days of '47 Pioneers of Progress Awards Banquet.

Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve and the Most Rev. John C. Wester, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, have both been honored with the President's Award in connection with the annual Days of '47 celebration in Salt Lake City.

The award was presented to the two religious leaders at the Pioneers of Progress Awards dinner July 13 at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City.

The President's Award is given each year to a person or persons who have done a great deal to promote goodwill in the community, said Eric Jergensen, president of this year's celebration.

Elder Ballard and Bishop Wester have been in the forefront of bringing about such goodwill locally and beyond as well as bringing down religious barriers to goodwill in the community, he said.

Days of '47 is Utah's annual observance of Pioneer Day commemorating July 24, 1847, when Brigham Young led the Mormon Pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley.
