The Church has created a new version of the "Book of Mormon Stories" videos that are now available online. The video series has gone through a major update and is now available in English at lds.org.
A technique called parallax animation was used to cut-out two-dimensional figures and move them independently around the screen. This pseudo-3D technique allows background images to move by the camera slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in 2D images. The technique grew out of the multiplane camera technique used in traditional animation since the 1940s.
The new version of the cartoons also features sound effects and stunning new visual effects such as animated lightning, stars and fire. A new original soundtrack was also added to the videos. "Book of Mormon Stories" is an excellent resource for teaching children and youth in the home and at Church. An updated version of the "New Testament Stories" in English and 10 other languages is also available at lds.org. The Book of Mormon Stories will be available in 10 other languages in December 2011.
