Speaking Saturday morning to all of those who strive to be like the Savior, Elder José Luis Alonso said of the Seventy said, "The prophets have declared that true happiness is found in following the example and teachings of Christ. He is our Savior, He is our Teacher, and He is the Perfect Example. His was a life of service."
As Church members work to serve those in need, it is an emulation of the life of the Savior, and in serving, some solutions to personal difficulties may be found.
"As we emulate the Savior, we show our love to Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ, and we become more like Them," Elder Alonso said.
All have the opportunity to serve and love those around them.
"Each day we have the opportunity to give help and service — doing the right thing, at the right time, without delay," he said.
When there is someone in need, like a neighbor or friend, think of what the right thing to do would be and when the right time to do it would be.
Elder Alonso shared an experience he had with his family while visiting Mexico during which time his oldest son got lost. When they found him, he had not realized he was lost at all. "We realized that in order to get to our son's rescue, we did not need planning meetings. We simply acted, going out in search of the one who had been lost."
He suggested there might be some who are lost and not know they are lost and, if others delay to act and serve, could be lost forever.
He shared the account of the Savior visiting the people in 3 Nephi, in which the Savior taught them and invited them to ponder the things He had said. When they wanted Him to stay with them longer, He healed their sick and blessed the children one by one.
"We have a responsibility and a great opportunity. There are many who need to once again experience the sweet savor of happiness and joy through activity in the Church," Elder Alonso said. "That happiness comes from receiving the ordinances, making sacred covenants and keeping them. The Lord needs us to help them. Let us do the right thing at the right time without delay."
