Since 1991, the Church News has devoted a portion of its last issue of the year to a specially selected theme, generally one that can be applied by individuals toward self-betterment in the new year. This issue focuses on the theme of learning. In a revelation given in Kirtland, Ohio, Latter-day Saints were instructed to "seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith" (Doctrine and Covenants 88:118). The revelation continues, asking Church members to prepare every needful thing and "establish a house."
Articles for this issue have been selected from the next portion of the revelation "even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God" (Doctrine and Covenants 88:119). Guest writers have been asked to address specific aspects of the revelation.

Brian D. Garner: 'Take opportunity to learn'
