Relief Society sisters and Young Women from the Clinton 27th Ward, Clinton Utah Stake, worked side by side with the Sewing Angels of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Layton for a "Souper" Saturday of Sewing for Service.

Present were 15 sewing machines, one serger and 58 women working on a variety of projects. The activity began at 9 a.m. and lasted until around 3 p.m. on Jan. 21. The idea for this combined activity was a result of a conversation between two neighbors, Sister Rebecca Nichols, of the Clinton 27th ward, and Pat Bergon, a member of the Sewing Angels.

Sister Nichols is a member of the Relief Society and when the request for ways to participate in more service was presented she thought they would be able to work together. The project was suited for different levels of sewing and the available work ranged from cutting patterns and stuffing bears, to tying quilts and or sewing seams and top stitches. There was also the complicated work of sewing bereavement dresses. Other items were donated and included bags of cloth, batting and sewing supplies to help with the continued efforts of the Sewing Angels. The women took a brief break to enjoy some soup and salad for lunch.

A pair of missionaries serving in the Clinton Utah Stake also served at the Saturday event. Elder Tiisetso Motsamai matched fabrics for bibs and blankets and sewed several blankets. His companion, Elder Jordan Edstrom, worked at the ironing board.

The completed projects included 57 bears, 14 bereavement dresses, 18 bereavement blankets, 41 bibs, 14 burp cloths, four sets of pajamas and hats, eight small blankets sewn and tied, two newborn intensive care unit blankets and two queen-size tied quilts.
