Cameroon, a Central African nation on the Gulf of Guinea, is bordered by Nigeria, Chad, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. It became independent from France on 1 January 1960. The official languages are English and French, while 24 African languages are also spoken.
