Japan Sapporo Mission

  • Members rejoicing in Sapporo

When the Tokyo Japan Temple was dedicated in October 1980, it was the only Mormon temple in the Orient. As other temples were built in the Far East, Tokyo primarily served members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan. It was centrally located in the island nation on its largest island of Honshu, but still required substantial travel for members from the southern island of Kyushu and the northern island of Hokkaido.
  • New temple presidents

Six new temple presidents have been called by the First Presidency, with their wives called as matrons. They will begin service soon.
  • New mission presidents

Seven mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency to begin their service about July 1. Their mission assignments will be announced later.
  • New Area Authority Seventies

At general conference April 3,35 new Area Authority Seventies were sustained, and another 13 released. There are now more than 260 Area Authority Seventies serving in six Quorums of the Seventy.
