    A large archipelago off the southeast coast of Asia, the Republic of the Philippines has a population of more than 70 million, speaking mainly English and Tagalog, along with seven other major dialects. More than 80 percent of the population is Catholic, due to a long period of Spanish rule, with the remainder being predominantly Protestant and Muslim.

    Three new temple presidents have been called by the First Presidency, with their wives called as matrons. They will begin service in 2010.

    Seven new mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin service about July 1.
