Zimbabwe Harare Mission

  • New boundaries announced for several missions

    Five new missions of the Church are being created in Zambia, Benin, Peru, the Philippines and Mexico, while five missions in Portugal, Switzerland, Canada and the United States are being combined with neighboring missions.

    There were Church members in Southern Rhodesia as early as 1925. Peter and Elizabeth DuPlooy, who lived 62 miles out of Salisbury, were baptized on 10 March 1925 while on a visit to South Africa.

    Madagascar, previously known as Malagasy Republic, became independent from France on 26 June 1960. It is in the Indian Ocean east of Mozambique and is the world's fourth largest island. It's people speak Malagasy and French. Fifty-two percent of the people follow traditional beliefs, while 41 percent are Christian, and 7 percent are Muslim.

    A country on the southeast coast of Africa, Mozambique covers 309,496 square miles. Almost all are Africans and speak one of the Bantu languages, though the country's official language is Portuguese. About 55 percent of the people practice tribal African religions. About 30 percent are Christians, mostly Roman Catholics, and Muslims.
