    A Mormon immigrant company under direction of Samuel Brannan departed on the ship Brooklyn from New York on 4 February 1846 en route to the Great Salt Lake valley via California. The group under the direction of Brannan navigated the southern tip of South America around Cape Horn and arrived at Yerba Buena on 31 July 1846.
  • Mormon Battalion commemoration in San Diego Old Town

    The march of the Mormon Battalion into San Diego on Jan. 29, 1847, was commemorated in a sixth-annual celebration Saturday, Jan. 31, at San Diego Old Town Historical Park.
