  • Moscow Russia Stake organized June 5, 2011

    The Church's history in Russia stretches back almost 170 years when the Prophet Joseph Smith called Orson Hyde of the Quorum of the Twelve and George J. Adams as the first two missionaries "to that vast empire" of Russia, to which, the Prophet stated, "is attached some of the most important things concerning the advancement and building up of the kingdom of God in the last days" (History of the Church, 6:41).
  • Apostle creates first stake in Russia

    Elder Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Quorum of the Twelve Apostles organized the Moscow Russia Stake on 5 June 2011 —the first stake in Russia and the second in the former Soviet Union. The meeting was held in Amber Plaza auditorium in Moscow and attended by more than 1,100 people on a warm and sunny day in Moscow.
