New stake presidencies

Stakes have been created in Lille, France; Long Beach, Calif.; Long Grove, Ill.; and Roy, Utah.

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Council of the Twelve officiated in the creation of the Lille France Stake from units in the Brussels Belgium Mission. There are now four stakes in France.Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone of the First Quorum of the Seventy officiated in creation of the Long Beach California North Stake, making 151 stakes in California and three in Long Beach.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Council of the Twelve presided at the creation of the Long Grove Illinois stake from units in two adjoining stakes. The new stake makes a total of 10 in Illinois.

Elder David B. Haight of the Council of the Twelve officiated in creation of the Roy Utah South Stake, making five stakes now in the northern Utah city.

Stakes presidencies were reorganized in Brigham City, Roy, and Washington, Utah; Lingayen and Manila, Philippines; Long Beach, Calif., and Schaumburg, Ill.

LILLE FRANCE STAKE: (Jan. 17, 1988) Created from a district in the Belgium Brussels Mission. President - Dominique Degrave, 44, bank administrator, former district president and counselor, and branch president. Counselors - Joel Nivard, 37, marketing director, former district president's counselor, branch president and counselor; Patrick Pecourt, 36, sales executive, former mission president's counselor, district president's counselor, and branch president.

LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA NORTH STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) Created by division of the Long Beach California Stake. President - V. Jay Spongberg, 60, funeral director, former president of Long Beach California Stake, stake president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop. Counselors - Quince R. Hansen, 50, deputy project director for new construction of U.S. Navy vessels, former stake president's counselor; bishop and counselor; Keith Gordon Devereaux, 39, financial representative, former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop and counselor.

LONG GROVE ILLINOIS STAKE; (Jan. 24, 1988) Created by division of the Wilmette Illinois and Schaumburg Illinois stakes. President - William D. Johnston, 44, corporate vice president of health care corporation, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop's counselor. Counselors - W. Steven Rubow, 47, senior vice president of grocer purchasing association, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, and bishop; Julian Paul Breillatt Jr., 49, research scientist for health care corporation, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, and seminary teacher.

ROY UTAH SOUTH STAKE: (Jan. 24, 1988) Created by division of the Roy Utah West Stake. President - Alonzo C. Heiner, 41, manufacturing director, former stake executive secretary, high councilor, and bishop. Counselors - Don Keith Singleton, 57, program analyst at U.S. Air Force base, former stake executive secretary, high councilor, bishop and counselor; Elwood Charles Zaugg, 49, Salt Lake Community College division chairman, former high councilor, elders quorum president, bishop and counselor.

BRIGHAM CITY UTAH BOX ELDER STAKE: (Jan. 24, 1988) President - George William (Bill) Davis, 65, owner and manager of implement and machine tool business, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, and elders quorum president's counselor. Counselors - Reed Obray Leishman, 51, systems services manager at aerospace company, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, and high priests group leader; Michael Devon Braegger, 34, electrician with Brigham City Corp., former high councilor and ward executive secretary.

LINGAYEN PHILIPPINES STAKE: (Jan. 24, 1988) President - Luciano De Guzman, 56, elementary school teacher, former bishop's counselor. Counselors - Rodrigo Caballero Lopez, 33, construction division project supervisor for Church's Philippines Micronesia Area; Jose Garin Manarin, 30, college instructor, former high councilor, stake Sunday School president, ward clerk and elders quorum president.

LONG BEACH CALIFORNIA STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Robert Lindsay Ward, 49, department store president, former mission president's counselor, stake president's counselor, bishop's counselor, and ward Young Men president. Counselors - Ronald E. Seamons, 40, LDS Foundation area director, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop and counselor; David D. Jones, 39, institute of religion director at Long Beach City College and seminary coordinator for Church Educational System, former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop and counselor.

MANILA PHILIPPINES STAKE: (Jan. 24, 1988) President - Catalino Enriquez Estrella Jr., 46, banker, former stake president's counselor and bishop. Counselors - Roland Parana Arcansalin, 31, Manila Temple recorder, former high councilor, bishop and ward clerk; Mario Oliveros Lopez, 30, institute of religion director, former high councilor, stake Young Men president, elders quorum president and counselor.

ROY UTAH WEST STAKE: (Jan. 24, 1988) President - Byron Preston Hughes, 53, high school teacher, stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop and counselor. Counselors - Lloyd H. Leany, 58, reliability engineer with support systems corporation, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, stake mission president's counselor, and ward Sunday School superintendent; John F. Chadwick, 37, international operations manager for vitamins manufacturer, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, high priests group leader, and ward Sunday School president.

SCHAUMBURG ILLINOIS STAKE: (Jan. 23, 1988) President - Owen D. West, retained. Counselors - William C. Peterson, retained; David Milligan Clark, 40, senior sales representative for magazine, former high councilor, branch president, high priests group leader, elders quorum president, and seminary teacher.

WASHINGTON UTAH STAKE: (Jan. 24, 1988) President - Donald Ray Hinton, 40, associate professor of speech at Dixie College in St. George, Utah; former high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader's assistant, and Primary Blazer B Scout leader. Counselors - Gene LaVon Jolley, 41, owner and manager of clothing business, former high councilor, bishop and counselor; Robert Snow Everett, elementary school principal, former bishop and counselor, and elders quorum president.
