LDS is recipient of Sears top marketing award

When Bill Hatch and his wife, Jolyne, produced the program for the Sears Roebuck and Co. "Marketing in Excellence Award," he had no idea he would be the recipient.

Hatch, a member of the Naperville 1st Ward, Naperville Illinois Stake, received the honor at Orchestra Hall in Chicago in February before 1,200 guests, comprising vice presidents of marketing from around the country. He is the first recipent of the award, the company's highest marketing honor.The Hatches, who had worked together before on theater productions both professionally and as service to the Church, assembled the production for the marketing awards meeting. It included a 15-piece orchestra, a half-hour of live entertainment by 30 Sears employees and an hour-long audio-visual presentation recognizing the 18 nominees vying for the award.

As his name was announced and he came forward to receive the award, the cast chanted, "You make it happen, Bill," a reference to the title song of the production, "You Make It Happen."

Hatch was recognized for his work as liaison between marketing departments and for developing a monthly video production focusing on key events, items and programs.

The couple heads the Naperville Arts Council.
