Nearly a half-million more visitors went to historic Temple Square during the summer months of June, July and August this year than in any previous Summer, reported Joseph F. Horne, director.
Horne said the three-month total was 1,845,895, compared with 1,369,539 during the same period last year.August turned out to be another record-breaking month, according to Quig Nielsen, public relations director for the Square.
"We recorded 596,911 guests during August," Nielsen sid, "and that's 130,970 more than August 1987."
The totalnumber of visitors for the year, as of Aug. 31, was 2,895,920, Nielsen said, compared with 2,259,523 for the first eight months last year.
"Right now attendance on the Square is running about 28 percent over last year," he said, "so it is conceivable that we could reach the 4 million mark by the end of the year."
