Touched by the scriptures

And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God. (Mosiah 2:17)

My missionary companion and I were working in a sector in Antofagasta, Chile. As we climbed down off a bus, I noticed a young woman who had two big bags of glass jars, and with much difficulty was trying to make her way home. Without a word I grabbed one of the bags and my compnaion took the other, and we told her we were going to help her.She objected at first, but we just kept on walking and talking with her. We explained who we were and what our purpose was in Chile.

The walk to her home was long and uphill most of the way. At last we arrived at her home and she invited us in to have a glass of water.

While inside we shared with her the Book of Mormon and we committed her to hear the discussions and the Spirit bore testimony of the things we explained.

Since this sister did not live within our sector, we gave the referral to those missionaries who were assigned to the sector in which she lived. They went to her home and taught her the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Two weeks after our first contact with this special sister, she entered the waters of baptism.

As I witnessed her baptism the words of King Benjamin came to me clearly, "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
