The Ricks College debate team recently won its third straight championship at the National Junior College Debate Tournament in Concord, Calif.
Eighty-seven schools participated in the national contest, said Ricks College debate coach Alan Bossard. Each school debated the topic, "Restriction of Handguns."Blaine Rawson of Teton, Idaho, and Amy Pack of Nampa, Idaho, tied for first place in the Lincoln-Douglas debate competition.
The pair also teamed up to take second place in the team debate division. Rawson placed first in extemporaneous and impromptu speaking and finished second in overall speaker points.
The team's total points earned this year is the highest number of sweepstake points by the college since 1967. Bossard has coached the Ricks debate team since 1965.
