Women to hear counsel of leaders at meeting

Women throughout the Church will have an opportunity to gather together and focus on significant issues Saturday, Sept. 28, at the annual General Women's Meeting.

A member of the First Presidency and members of the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society general presidencies will speak at the meeting, held in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. The meeting will be broadcast live from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (MDT) by satellite to meetinghouses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. It will be transmitted again at 8 p.m. (MDT) that same evening over the Church satellite network and over KBYU-TV, Channel 11.

Women and young women 12 years of age and older are invited to attend or view the meeting.

"My heart is with the children who critically need loving care and spiritual development in a safe environment," commented Michaelene P. Grassli, Primary general president. "My hope is that the women who lead, teach and nurture children can be spiritually strengthened by this meeting and be fortified in their desire to provide children with the examples and teaching they need."

Ardeth G. Kapp, Young Women general president, added: "We meet together to be edified, inspired and renewed. It is a time to respond to the natural desire of women to nurture, protect and encourage one another. When young women receive clear direction and are supported by parents, leaders and peers, they will be able to withstand the increasing challenges of our day. This Women's Meeting helps provide that opportunity."

Relief Society Gen. Pres. Elaine L. Jack, remarked: "It is a joy to gather with the sisters of the Church in a General Women's Meeting. I feel a great kinship with the women who comprise our Relief Society sisterhood. Especially as we look to the 1992 celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Relief Society, I am grateful to join with our sisters to learn more about our Savior and to feel the strength of our united testimonies of His gospel."
