Groundbreaking services for the Mt. Timpanogos Utah Temple, to be constructed in American Fork, Utah, will be held Oct. 9 at 10 a.m., the First Presidency announced.
Members of the temple district are invited to attend the groundbreaking. The First Presidency will preside and conduct the services.Site preparation will begin shortly after the ceremony, and a contract will be awarded soon afterward. Church leaders said the temple is expected to be completed in about two years.
The Mt. Timpanogos temple will be the third temple under construction. Currently being built are the Bountiful Utah and Orlando Florida temples. Both are past the halfway mark in construction, and are expected to be completed in about a year.
Construction is also expected to start soon on the Bogota Colombia Temple, for which ground was broken June 26. Other temple sites pending groundbreaking are in Guayaquil, Ecuador; Hartford, Conn.; Hong Kong; Preston, England; St. Louis, Mo.; and in Spain.
The Mt. Timpanogos Utah Temple District includes 37 stakes in four counties in central Utah. The stakes, by county, are:
