In upper photo, Louis Twitchell, president of the Wind River Branch in western Wyoming, is a great-great-great-grandson of Sacajawea, a Shoshone Indian woman who was a guide for Lewis and Clark on their expedition to the Northwest in 1805-06. In lower photo, George Abeyta and his son, Jordan, pose at gravesite of their ancestor, Washakie. Brother Abeyta, second counselor in the branch presidency, is a great-great-grandson of the Shoshone chief.

The gravesites, in two different cemeteries in Ft. Washakie, Wyo., are visual reminders of the heritage of many Shoshone members of the branch.The story about the Wind River Branch begins on page 6.
