  • Conference-goers arrived early, many before daybreak, as they typically do on Sunday morning. They mingled with friends, or strolled thoughtfully around Temple Square adoring the colorful flower beds. On this morning, a calm seemed to prevail.

This session may well be remembered as the time President Gordon B. Hinckley stood at the pulpit, and, speaking from the depth of his feelings, reached out to the women of the Church with his prophetic charm and encircled them with his concern and appreciation. Women are the crowning act of creation, he said.

The Mormon Tabernacle, directed by Craig Jessop with Richard Elliott on the organ, sang; "Praise to the Lord," "Our Savior's Love," "Come, Ye Children of the Lord," "Consider the Lillies," "High on the Mountain Top" and "Lead Kindly Light."

President Hinckley conducted the session. The invocation was offered by Elder Lance B. Wickman, with the benediction being given by Elder Dennis E. Simmons, both of whom are members of the Seventy.
