Beaverton, Ore.: LDS pioneer heritage seen in July 4 parade

Some 200 members of the Beaverton Oregon West Stake shared pioneer heritage with the community by joining the Hillsboro Happy Days Parade on July 4. To join the parade, said to be the third largest in Oregon, stake members built handcarts and made pioneer costumes.

Lisa Henry of the Hazeldale Ward, which had 65 people in the parade, said that members felt a small measure of the strength of spirit of the pioneers as they prodded children on the parade route. "As we gathered for a picnic afterward, nursing our blisters and soothing sunburns, we felt a unity, as wards, stake and children of God - a special gratitude for the pioneer forefathers who have made our lives so rich through their sacrifices."
