Tampa, Fla.: Members participate in local fair

Members of the Tampa Florida stake celebrated the sesquicentennial by helping city and state officials spearhead a county-wide event that attracted 17,000 people.

After the stake public affairs council helped come up with ideas for a Good Community Fair, civic leaders asked a Church representative to be "landlord" of a section of the fair showcasing Tampa's religious and ethnic diversity.Stake members worked hard to make the day successful. A 40-member choir sang on the main stage and interactive demonstrations were given on the family history center, bishops' storehouse and cannery. Young Women, Scouts and single adults welcomed visitors, answered questions and passed out brochures.

All 25 participating denominations and organizations in the project helped build a model of the Orlando Temple out of 1,500 beef stew cans. Four participating agencies later used the food to feed the needy.
