When Latter-day Saints in the South Pacific sang "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet," during President Gordon B. Hinckley's visit, it was obvious that they were sincere in their musical offering. Many members in Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Tahiti saw a prophet in person for the first time as President Hinckley visited their islands from Oct. 10-17.
The love that members have for President Hinckley is reflected in this comment by Taulata Veni of Tonga: "I felt warm and happy to have the opportunity see and hear the prophet. I feel closer to my Savior. I wish I could spend more time with President Hinckley because I felt a strength beyond explanation while I watched and listened to him. I will never forget this special day in my life."
