GRANTS PASS, Ore. A "Worldwide Baby Shower" was held recently by the Relief Society of the Grants Pass Oregon Stake to prepare newborn kits for distribution to needy mothers through LDS Humanitarian Services.
After an article appeared in the local newspaper explaining the need, donations of baby articles, money and even completed kits were received prior to the "shower," from members of the community as well as members of the Church, who also asked friends and coworkers to donate. On May 6, approximately 80 women gathered at the stake center to sew receiving blankets and to assemble kits. More than 100 kits were completed for shipment to Salt Lake City, and the leftover materials were donated to a local shelter.
Stake Relief Society President Candice Smith noted: "The finished newborn kits have a value of at least $20 each. My counselors and I are very touched by the financial sacrifice the 100-plus kits represents on the part of people in the community and members of the Church."
