Elder Robert C. Oaks biography

Family: Born Feb. 14, 1936, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Charles E. and Ann Bonnett Oaks; raised in Provo, Utah; married Gloria Unger on June 10, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple; parents of six children, Perry (Marci Campbell), Barton C. (Laurel Willoughby), Keri (Barry Waugaman), Derek (Preot Allen), Brock C. (Tiffany Farha) and Kristie.

Education: Bachelor's degree in military science from the Air Force Academy, master's in business administration from Ohio State University, a year at the Naval War College and a year of pilot training.

Employment: Air Force career included pilot training and assignments in Florida, Nevada, Arizona, Korea and Vietnam; staff of Air Force Academy; Pentagon staff; promoted to brigadier general and assigned as commander of 86th tactical fighter wing at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany; Pentagon, with personnel and planning assignments; commanded allied NATO air forces in Naples, Italy; commander, Air Training Command in San Antonio, Texas; commander of U.S. Air Forces Europe at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany; retired in 1994; senior vice president of operations at US Airways.

Church service: President of the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania North Stake at the time of his calling as a General Authority; former gospel doctrine teacher, district president's counselor, high councilor, mission president's counselor, Young Men president, bishop's counselor and stake missionary.
