IDAHO FALLS, Idaho Ricks College students who enjoy scuba diving joined other volunteers from eastern Idaho Sept. 9 to help clean up waterways in southeastern Idaho. Up to 20 students each year have helped for the past three years with the cleanup day, says Garth Nelson, adviser for the Ricks College Scuba Club in Rexburg, Idaho. The students pulled out rubbish from along the Snake River in Idaho Falls and at Ririe Reservoir.
"The purpose of the cleanup day is to clean our waterways to help ensure we have pure water," Brother Nelson said. "We're cleaning up rubbish that's been there for decades. We've been going to the same spot for six years; the first few years I never saw a fish in those areas, but just this last year there were schools of fish in several locations."
