SAN ANTONIO, Texas Severe flooding occurred in Texas during July, when more than 30 inches of rain fell in a seven-day period. Two dams significantly exceeded their capacity and overflowed into several towns and farms, destroying almost 1,000 homes and causing more than $1 billion in damage.
Missionaries from the Texas San Antonio Mission participated in numerous service projects the weeks after the flood. "The community has felt the concern from the Church and local stores have been generous in providing water and food to the missionaries that have been working," said mission president Marion D. Woods. "One local restaurant owner said, 'We're grateful for your assistance in this effort. Helping with food is the least we can do to thank you.' "
