A testimony is the sure and certain knowledge that something is true. The testimony of Jesus is the sure and certain knowledge, revealed to the spirit of a person through the Holy Ghost, that Jesus is the living Son of the living God.

"Because the testimony of Jesus Christ is God-given, it stands pre-eminent and is essential to a happy life. It is the fundamental principle of our religion, and all other things pertaining to our faith are appendages to it."

A testimony nurtured through righteous living becomes the governing force in all that a person does. It is available to all because "God is no respecter of persons."

Acquiring a testimony does not come without personal effort.

The desire to know is the first step. A testimony requires that the honest seeker study the scriptures. Along with desire and study, is living to merit a testimony. Finally, the testimony of Jesus Christ comes to those who pray to receive it. "Ask, and it shall be given you" is the invitation that leads the humble and penitent to a knowledge of the Savior.

Jesus Christ wrought a perfect Atonement for all mankind by his incomparable life, his suffering in Gethsemane, the shedding of his blood, his death on the cross and his glorious Resurrection.

"As the world could not overcome him in the meridian of time, so the world cannot do without him in our time, and neither can we. His purpose is 'to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.' "
