Living by the scriptures

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

— Matthew 6:33

We have been raising a family on one income. The Lord has provided for our needs in miraculous ways.

Our daughter Heidi was called on a mission, and we knew it would take money we did not have to get her ready. Generous donations were given to us. We took the funds as a family with eight children at home to Salt Lake City. We assumed the money would stretch farther in a larger city.

After shopping, we returned feeling prepared for her mission, with the money supply exhausted. Not long afterward, my daughter discovered that her shoes did not fit and that it was painful to wear them. They were just too tight. Knowing we were not able to buy her another pair, she did not tell anyone.

A woman in the ward called us. She wanted to take Heidi to town. She said she kept getting a feeling that she needed to take her to town and buy her shoes. Then, much to our surprise as parents, we found that Heidi was unable to wear the other shoes. Two pairs of shoes were purchased, most special like never before.

With the Lord's help, a future sister missionary was prepared for her mission. The scripture found in Matthew 6:33 had truly been fulfilled.
