Nauvoo Pageant needs participants

Families and individuals are invited to participate in the second year of the Nauvoo Pageant, to be presented in Nauvoo, Ill., July 7 through August 4. Participating in the pageant provides performers and volunteers the chance to express and strengthen faith, share the gospel with participants and visitors, cultivate skills and abilities, share meaningful experiences with family and friends, and enjoy the atmosphere of historical Nauvoo. This year, in addition to performance opportunities, positions are available to participate behind the scenes on work crews and other support teams.

Five groups of 120 family volunteers will perform with a core cast. Each group will participate for approximately two weeks: one week of rehearsal and pre-show activities, and one week of onstage performance. Children of all ages are welcome.

Also, 24-36 young men, ages 17-19, will serve on three work crews that assist with all technical elements of the pageant, including stage, props, lighting, sound, site, and pre-show. Participants in each three-week crew will be assigned companions and follow a model of missionary service.

Up to 100 volunteers, ages 18 and older, are needed on support teams backstage and behind-the-scenes to support the pageant. These volunteers will serve as stage crew, costumers, security and medical personnel, food services assistants, children's activity leaders and office administrators.

For more information and to submit an online application, visit www.nauvoopageant.org. Applications are due by Feb. 28, and those accepted will be notified the beginning of April.

The Nauvoo Pageant opens Friday, July 7, and runs Tuesday through Saturday evenings through Friday, August 4, 2005. Performances begin at 8:45 p.m. Audience members are also invited to enjoy vignette performances around Old Nauvoo during the day and a 19th-century city celebration beginning at 7 p.m., in which the pageant cast host dancing, period games, crafts, and other events.
