The best way to describe the Resource Room in the basement of the Relief Society Building is "practical application."
Whether you are a Relief Society, Primary or Young Women leader or teacher, or whether you just want some ideas for wholesome family activities or home evening lessons, you can find what you're looking for here.
"This is a place where leaders can come year-round during office hours and get help for their callings and learn the vision of young women, why it's here, see videos, get ideas for how to accomplish their callings," said Julie B. Beck, first counselor in the Young Women general presidency.
The same goes for Primary and Relief Society. In fact, Anne C. Pingree, second counselor in the Relief Society general presidency emphasized that principles of Relief Society are "reflected in practical application, and (the Resource Room) is a place where all women can come and see a beautiful time-line that shows the beginnings of Relief Society."
"The Resource Room is an engaging place for Primary workers to come for information and inspiration," added Margaret S. Lifferth, first counselor in the Primary general presidency.
The Resource Room is divided into three sections. The Young Women section has recently been refurbished and now includes plasma touch screens with training vignettes for Personal Progress, For the Strength of Youth, Sunday lessons, and activities. Posters show ideas submitted by units of the Church on ideas for camp and other activities.
The Relief Society section is set on the theme of six "pillars," which represent Sunday lessons, transition (from Young Women to Relief Society), visiting teaching, literacy, welfare and enrichment activities. Each section includes some ideas; for example, under welfare, there are suggestions and displays on home storage.
In the Primary section, leaders and teachers can get ideas on Sharing Time, teaching and music, as well as information on serving children with disabilities.
And more important, these ideas can all be applied in local units and even homes. Sister Beck described it as sending leaders and teachers "home with tangibles."
The Resource Room is open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
