Seventies called

Eleven men called to the First and Second Quorums of the Seventy were sustained at general conference. Among them is Elder Keith K. Hilbig, a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy since 2001, who was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy. Also called to the First Quorum are Elder David S. Baxter, Ipswich, Suffolk, England; Elder Shayne M. Bowen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Elder Daniel L. Johnson, Colonia Juarez, Mexico; Elder Marcus B. Nash, Lynnwood, Wash.; and Elder Anthony D. Perkins, a mission president in Taipei, Taiwan.

Called to the Second Quorum are Elder Craig A. Cardon, Gilbert, Ariz.; Elder Don R. Clarke, Buena Vista, Va.; Elder Keith R. Edwards, Las Vegas, Nev.; Elder Stanley G. Ellis, Spring, Texas; and Elder Larry W. Gibbons, Dallas, Texas.

Elder Baxter, 51, from Ipswich, England, was an Area Seventy and is second counselor in the presidency of the Europe West Area. He graduated from the University of Wales and has held communications and marketing positions with several international companies and is in international trade development for the United Kingdom. He is a former stake president, mission president's counselor, stake institute director, stake public affairs director and bishop. He and his wife, Dianne Lewars Baxter, are parents of four children.

Elder Bowen, 51, was an Area Seventy in the Idaho Area. After completing a bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University, he pursued a career in insurance, owning and operating his own agency. Elder Bowen is a former mission president, stake president, high councilor, bishop, and high priests group instructor. He and his wife, Lynette Mortensen Bowen, have seven children.

Elder Johnson, 59, was an Area Seventy in the Mexico North Area, residing in Colonia Juarez, Mexico, prior to his call as a General Authority. He graduated from BYU and has owned a business and has been employed as an executive by a number of international companies. He is a former mission president, counselor in mission presidencies, counselor in a stake presidency, bishop and ward Young Men president. He and his wife, LeAnn Holman Johnson, are parents of six children.

Elder Nash, 49, was an Area Seventy in the North America Northwest Area. He graduated from BYU and received a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU. He is a partner in a major Seattle law firm. He is a former stake president, bishop, ward Young Men president and elders quorum president. Elder Nash and his wife, Shelley Hatch Nash, have five children.

Elder Perkins, 45, is president of the Taiwan Taipei Mission. He earned advanced degrees from the Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his call as a mission president, he was a senior partner in an international business consulting firm in Beijing, China. He is a former district president's counselor and branch president's counselor, ward clerk, elders quorum president, and seminary teacher. He and his wife, Christine Abbott Perkins, are the parents of six children.

Elder Cardon, 57, was serving as the teacher improvement coordinator in the Page Ward, Gilbert Arizona Highland Stake. He studied accounting and earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University. Elder Cardon completed a master's degree in public administration at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He has been self-employed in real estate development. He is a former mission president, stake president, high councilor, bishop, counselor in a stake presidency and bishop's counselor. He and his wife, Deborah Dana Cardon, have eight children.

Elder Clarke, 60, was a high councilor in the Buena Vista Virginia Stake at the time of his call. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from BYU, and a master's degree in business administration from Washington State University. He held executive positions in several retailing companies. He is a former mission president, stake president, assistant director of Church Hosting, high councilor and bishop. He and his wife, Mary Anne Jackson Clarke, are parents of six children.

Elder Edwards, 64, was an Area Seventy in the North America Southwest Area. He completed his undergraduate studies in political science at BYU and earned a law degree from the University of Utah and practiced law with several large firms. His previous Church service includes mission president, area welfare director, stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, and assistant temple recorder. He and his wife, Judy Higgins Edwards, have seven children.

Elder Stanley G. Ellis, 59, was an Area Seventy in the North America Southwest Area and belongs to the Spring Creek Ward, Klein Texas Stake. He graduated from Harvard University and received a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU. Elder Ellis is the chief executive officer of an insurance and financial services company. He has served the Church as mission president, stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, counselor in a bishopric, elders quorum president, ward Young Men president and full-time missionary. Elder Ellis and his wife, Kathryn Kloepfer Ellis, have nine children.

Elder Gibbons, 63, was a gospel doctrine teacher in the Richardson 2nd Ward, Richardson Texas Stake. He attended Stanford University, earned his medical degree from the University of Utah and a master of public health degree from Harvard University. He is a practicing physician and president of a medical clinic. He is a former Area Seventy, regional representative, stake president, counselor in a stake presidency and seminary teacher. He and his wife, LaDawn Anderson Gibbons, are the parents of two children.
