On the day the Church was organized, April 6, 1830, the Lord commanded the Prophet Joseph Smith, "Behold, there shall be a record kept among you."
Consistent with that directive, the fourth annual Church History Symposium at BYU Feb. 27 focused on the theme "Preserving the History of the Latter-day Saints."
Elder Marlin K. Jensen of the Seventy, Church Historian and Recorder, and Richard E. Turley Jr., Assistant Church Historian, were keynote speakers in opening and closing sessions at the five-hour symposium, co-sponsored this year the Church History Department and by BYU's Religious Studies Center and Division of Continuing Education, which will publish selected presentations in book form sometime next year.
In addition, 18 scholars covered various aspects of the theme in concurrent sessions.
Summarized on these pages are the addresses by Elder Jensen and Brother Turley. Some others will be coverd in next week's Church News.
