President of first Spanish-speaking stake dies

After a life full of Church service, Harold Brown, age 92, passed away April 1, 2009, in American Fork, Utah. Brother Brown was a pioneer for the Church in many ways after serving in capacities within the country of Mexico.

A man of many firsts for the church, Brother Brown was the first stake president of any Spanish-speaking stake in the world, serving in Mexico City, Mexico, from 1962-70; he became the first regional representative in Mexico from 1974-81; and the first temple president of the Mexico City Temple from 1983-88.

Brother Brown was born June 3, 1917 in Duncan, Ariz. and was raised in the Mormon Colonies in Mexico. He served as a young missionary in Argentina, and later served as mission president in the Argentine Mission from 1949-52.
