Church leaders on social media

Members of the First Presidency have recently launched their own personal pages on Google's social networking site, Google+. Personal Facebook pages for the First Presidency have also been launched.

Dale Jones, spokesperson for the Church, released a statement regarding the new social media activity. "The Church has recently created Google+ pages for senior leadership," he said, noting the First Presidency will also have pages on Facebook. "These pages will act as an official social media presence for these leaders, where the Church will post links to talks, articles, videos and other relevant content on their behalf."

Launched in 2011, Google+ is a relatively new social media platform managed by Google Inc. and is marketed as a more transparent social media platform that connects users through the Google web browser.

It integrates all Google services and displays a new Google+ menu bar on other Google services when users are logged into a Google account.

As users search for a member of the First Presidency or Quorum of the Twelve, they will see a profile picture and some content alongside the Google search results for that name.
